Where the figure comes from
Social security contribution accounts by workplace, month by month for 2025, across three activities: food and drink, lodging and retail. An account closes when a business stops paying contributions — that is, when it shuts, not when it is empty.
The divisor is the town's own best month, not July. In the Canaries the peak falls in winter, and dividing by July would give more than one. The peak month sits in the table beside the share: on its own it says more about a town than the share does.
Five places are villages inside another municipality and share its figure. The table says so, and the checkbox above removes them: otherwise a seaside village would carry what is true of a town twenty kilometres inland.
It is worth switching the activity. Food and drink is the most sensitive marker of a season, retail the steadiest: shops live on residents, not visitors. The order of towns barely changes with the choice; the level changes a lot.
