Ciutadella is Menorca's most populated town, with around thirty-two thousand residents. It stands at the western end of the island on a narrow inlet. Until seventeen fourteen, when the British took the island and moved the administration to Maó, it was the capital; the bishopric is still here. Its old centre has survived better than Maó's since.
For anyone moving, the difference between Menorca's two towns is substantial. Ciutadella is furthest from the infrastructure: thirty-five minutes to a hospital, forty-five to the airport, and the square metre costs more than in Maó. In exchange: a more complete old town and the western beaches. The island empties for a long winter, and Ciutadella is no exception — from December to February load sits at the bottom of the scale.

Paperwork and practicalities
