Corralejo is a resort village at the northern tip of Fuerteventura, inside the municipality of La Oliva. It is known for its dunes: the sand field of the natural park lies south of the village, separating it from the rest of the island. Across the strait you can see the islet of Lobos and, beyond it, Lanzarote — there is a ferry.

Corralejo lives on wind and water: this is one of the kite and surf capitals of the Canaries, and the crowd matches — young and international. Almost half the residents are foreign. In winter the village is full; in spring and early summer it empties noticeably. The hospital is thirty-five minutes away and the airport forty — further than from the island capital, and on a long island those distances decide. There are no international schools. The padrón is published for the whole of La Oliva, so the figures on the card are our estimate for the village itself.

Renting without a Spanish contract

How realistic a long lease is without a nómina — on foreign income, savings or prepayment.

  • 44% foreign residents — income from abroad is routine for landlords here
  • A community with its own services: agencies have dealt with foreigners before
  • Prices rising 8.5% a year — the landlord picks, and the first filter is a nómina

This is our model, not a measurement: demanding a nómina is an individual landlord's practice and nobody publishes it. The rating is derived from the share of foreign residents, the presence of a community with services, price growth, seasonality of the stock and the size of the town.

Two to five weeks of waiting, and getting in is hard. In June 2026 the CSIF civil-service union warned that the issuing points, Siete Palmas, Telde, Maspalomas, Arrecife and Puerto del Rosario, would not withstand the regularisation wave, while the Podemos party spoke of a black market in appointments at up to 1,000 euros. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura have their own stations.
