Corralejo
Corralejo is a resort village at the northern tip of Fuerteventura, inside the municipality of La Oliva. It is known for its dunes: the sand field of the natural park lies south of the village, separating it from the rest of the island. Across the strait you can see the islet of Lobos and, beyond it, Lanzarote — there is a ferry.
Corralejo lives on wind and water: this is one of the kite and surf capitals of the Canaries, and the crowd matches — young and international. Almost half the residents are foreign. In winter the village is full; in spring and early summer it empties noticeably. The hospital is 35 minutes away and the airport forty — further than from the island capital, and on a long island those distances decide. There are no international schools. The padrón is published for the whole of La Oliva, so the figures on the card are our estimate for the village itself.
