Castelldefels is a town twenty kilometres south-west of Barcelona, with around sixty-nine thousand residents. A tenth-century castle stands on the hill above and gave the place its name, and below runs five kilometres of sandy beach, among the widest near Barcelona.
For anyone moving this is a suburb of the Catalan capital with the sea attached: twenty-five minutes to the centre by train, ten to El Prat airport. Hence the price — the square metre here is among the dearest on the mainland coast, just below Barcelona's and above Marbella's. The town works all year, with visitors added in summer. Beside it lies the Garraf nature park, limestone hills right behind the buildings.
