Telde
Telde is the second most populated municipality on Gran Canaria and the fourth in the Canaries, with a hundred and four thousand people. The town lies on the east coast beside the airport. Its name comes from the aboriginal Telle: before the Spanish conquest this was one of the two kingdoms the island was divided into.
For anyone moving, Telde is interesting for its price: the cheapest square metre on the island, with the airport ten minutes away, the hospital 16, and Las Palmas twenty minutes up the motorway. This is not a resort: fewer than five per cent of residents are foreign, and the town runs on itself all year. The north of Gran Canaria works differently from the south anyway — greener, wetter, and without the winter influx that fills Maspalomas from November to February.
