Pollença is a small town in the north of Mallorca at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana, with around eighteen thousand residents. The town itself sits inland, six kilometres from the sea, while Port de Pollença lies on the shore — a separate village with a beach and a marina. Six kilometres separate them, and they are two different places.
The north of the island lives differently from Palma: in winter most of what works in summer closes and load falls to the bottom. The airport is an hour away, the hospital half an hour. In exchange: the mountains close by, a quiet winter and a price below Palma's. Anyone choosing between the city and the north should come in February. In August the difference is not visible at all.
