Pontevedra is the capital of the province of the same name, with around eighty-four thousand residents. It sits at the head of an inlet on the river Lérez, in the middle of the Rías Baixas. The city is known for having handed almost its whole centre to pedestrians since the two-thousands: cars were taken out, and the rebuild has been studied abroad ever since.
For anyone moving that is a rare case in Spain where living without a car is not a caveat but the design of the city. There is a university, a hospital, a railway station. Vigo is half an hour away and the airport the same. The water in the inlet is warm by Galician standards but still Atlantic. Housing costs less than on the Mediterranean. It rains all year — this is Galicia.

This is the median rent on active leases — tax records for 2024, a sample of 5 471 leases. It includes long-standing contracts at unchanged rents, so it sits below what is asked today: our estimate of asking rent is 680 € for a two-bedroom.
The point of the 75th percentile: it is closer to what is being signed now than the median. The gap between them shows how much a new tenant overpays relative to long-standing ones.

3Almost everyone goes through the Vigo police station. Appointment-watching services report one to two weeks of waiting. But in June 2026 the Galician immigration lawyers association warned that once regularisation decisions start landing, catching a fingerprint slot will become nearly impossible. The evidence conflicts, so treat this as a rough estimate.
