Puerto del Rosario is the capital of Fuerteventura and its most populated municipality, with around forty-six thousand residents. The town stretches inland from the east coast; besides the capital itself the municipality takes in El Matorral, Puerto Lajas and other villages.
This is the one place on the island where everything is close. The hospital is ten minutes away, the airport ten, the port is in the town. The rest of the island runs a hundred kilometres, and from Pájara in the south that same hospital is nearly an hour off. The beaches here, according to the Spanish article on the municipality, suit surfing and windsurfing — wind on Fuerteventura is a permanent feature rather than one day's weather. The island is the driest in our base, and drinking water comes from desalination.

Paperwork and practicalities
