Vinaròs is the northernmost town in Castellón province, on the Catalan border, with around twenty-nine thousand residents. It lives on fishing and farming, and is known for the prawns from its harbour, served here as the local speciality.
For anyone moving this is an ordinary working town rather than a resort: there are visitors in summer, but it does not empty in winter because it rests on its own trades. Housing is cheap even by the province's standards. There is a railway station in the town, Castellón is an hour away, Tarragona the same and Barcelona two. The sea here is warm by Mediterranean standards and rain is scarce; the drawback is that large hospitals and an airport are not nearby.
