Two calendars of guests
Guests from abroad come for the winter sun and for the summer, and the two waves nearly merge into a flat line. Their arrivals peaked in March at 146,339 and were lowest in May at 115,869: a ratio of 1.3. They stay long, 7.3 to 8.3 nights depending on the month.
Guests resident in Spain behave differently. They are few in winter and many in summer: fewest in December, 11,360, most in August, 45,049. And they stay shorter: 4.2 to 5.7 nights. So in August they are 24% of arrivals but 16% of hotel nights. Their share of nights is lowest in December: 5%. Nights and arrivals by country of residence.
The year's price follows the summer. August was the dearest and fullest month of both years: €150 and 85% of beds taken over the last year, €137 and 83% the year before. Winter January costs 23% less than August, while only 14% fewer guests from abroad arrive.
May: empty in both years
May was the island's emptiest month both over the last year and the year before, with 64% and 62% of beds taken. May also brings the fewest guests from abroad. Over the last year its price was €112, the lowest of any month. The year before, June was cheapest, but only by €1: €102 against €103.
May weather is already summery in sun and dryness: 280 hours of sun in the month and 1 mm of rain in the normal. Days reach 24.1 °C, 3.7 °C cooler than August. The water is only just crossing the swimming line: 20.3 °C off Pájara. For walking and sun it is nearly summer for less; for long swims many people still find the water cool. The swimming season along the whole coast.
Summer: dearer than a year before
July is the sunniest month of the normal, 294 hours, with daytime highs of 27.3 °C. August is a touch hotter, 27.8 °C, and fuller: 85% of beds taken. Over the year summer rose more than the rest: a night in July went from €129 to €146, and in August from €137 to €150. January added 6% over the same time, and December even got cheaper. One year is not a rule, but over it the gap between summer and the rest of the year widened.
Autumn: warm water, emptier hotels
The ocean warms more slowly than the land, so the water off Fuerteventura is warmest not in August but in September and in October: 23.2 °C. By then the summer holidays are over. The share of nights spent by guests from Spain falls from 16% in August to 8% in October, and 75% and 74% of beds are taken. September costs 21% less than August, October 17% less.
What you give up for it. In October the day is cooler, 26.1 °C against 27.8 °C, and there is less sun: 227 hours in the month against 289. Rain returns, about 2 rain days in the month. September is close to August in weather: 27.5 °C by day and 2 mm of rain in the normal.
Spring: Easter moves the wave
In spring the wave of guests from Spain is lifted by Holy Week, which moves every year. In 2025 it fell on 13–20 April, and guests from Spain spent 70,212 hotel nights in April against 48,785 in March. In 2026 Holy Week began on 29 March, and March nights rose to 120,629, 2.5 times the year before. When planning a spring trip, it helps to check that year's Easter date.
Winter and rain
On land the coolest month is January: 20.6 °C by day and 14.7 °C at night. The water is coldest later, in March: 18.7 °C. December to February get 186–190 hours of sun a month.
The normal gives about 98 mm of rain a year, 70% of it from November to February. The wettest month is December: 26 mm, over about 3 rain days. June, July and August average none. Resort hotels have the fewest staff in January and the most in August, and the gap is no more than a sixth. Pájara, in the south, has by far the most hotel staff: 8,812 to 9,283 people.
