April is 20 °C in the air, 19.2 °C in the sea, load 2 out of 4. The island is at its emptiest: the winterers have gone, the summer visitors have not come, and the weather is already what it will be in May.
For a scouting trip April is the best month of the year here. The spread between places is visible without the summer premium: the square metre costs €1,942 in Arrecife, €2,200 in Teguise, €2,400 in Tías and €2,600 in Yaiza — thirty per cent of difference inside one island you can drive across in an hour. Arrecife is the capital, with its own life and its own schools; the other three are resort towns, and in April you can tell by who is out on the street in the morning.
