May on Mallorca is 19 °C by day and 19 °C in the sea. The water is still too cold for swimming: it only reaches 22.9 °C in June. There are fewer people than in summer, though: load is 3 out of 5 against 5 in August. In Pollença and Alcúdia in the north the season starts later: load there was 2 in April against 3 in Palma, and by May it has caught up.
For anyone moving, May shows the island in working order: schools are in session, markets run on weekdays rather than on a visitor timetable, and prices have not yet jumped. By the ministry's appraisal a square metre in Palma is €3,792: above Santa Cruz de Tenerife (€2,326) and Arrecife (€2,011), well below Ibiza town (€5,435). And the gap between winter and summer life here is smaller than on Ibiza.
