The Costa Brava starts at Blanes, where the flat sand of the Maresme ends, and runs on through cliffs and coves to Cap de Creus. Roses in the north is already two hundred kilometres from Barcelona, and it shows: Girona airport is a hundred kilometres away. The further north, the finer the shore and the further everything else.
