Benidorm is one of the few resorts on this coast that does not sit the winter out but works for it. People come here to winter, and everything is arranged for that: places open, transport running, doctors seeing patients. Hence a winter score of 4 out of 5 — on the Costa Blanca only it and Alicante manage that, and Alicante is a city rather than a resort. Foreign residents make up 34.8%, there is one international school, the hospital is 25 minutes away and the airport 50. January is the month when that difference needs no explaining.
