February in Barcelona is 10.5 °C by day and 13.4 °C in the sea — the coldest water of the year, colder than January's. The air is past its January low, and by the end of the month the terraces fill again.
February has one reason families search for it. In Catalonia school applications are filed in spring for the year starting in September, and the points that decide a place are set by regional decree: the catchment area, a parent working in it, a sibling already at the school. Barcelona has 12 international schools, more than anywhere else in our base. People who come to look at the city with schools in mind come in February or March, not in August, when the schools are shut and there is nobody to ask.
