Two places on the Costa Blanca hold a winter score of 5 out of 5 — Alicante and Benidorm — but they hold it for different reasons. Benidorm lives through the winter because people come to winter there. Alicante lives because it is a city: 365,586 residents, a university, a port, a hospital 10 minutes away, 5 international schools, an airport 20 minutes away with 120 direct routes. The difference shows in May, when the winterers leave: one empties out, the other does not change at all.
